Art Palette Cookies & Free Printable Cookie Tags

Sorry I've been quiet all week! Thank you for all the emails checking in on me. Everything has been wonderful, just really busy. But I made lots of cookies for you to see in the next few days!

I made these art palette cookies just for fun for my son and his friends. I think they are one of my new favorite cookies! I outlined the art palette and filled it with white icing. After I made all the extra colors of icing, I asked my son and his friend if they would like to do the "messy" part. I have trouble with being messy, so I thought that if I decorated them, they wouldn't look realistic or what I had envisioned. The boys ended up having too much homework to do, so I set out to make a mess. Well it turned out that this is the perfect cookie design for glaze icing. For those that want to try their hand at glaze icing, make these cookies! Unlike Royal Icing that stays where you tell it to stay, glaze icing is more runny and kind of does what it wants. So I did work a little at making a mess, but the glaze worked at it too ;-)

Want to make your own Art Palette cookies and matching cookie tags? I bought the large art palette at CopperGifts.com and I bought the paintbrush at CheapCookieCutters.com. I made some fun art palette cookie tags and shared them for you here. Just click on the link and download your own copy and personalize and print your very own art palette cookie tags.

Want to know something cool? These are a rolled MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP cookie! Isn't that cool? My son says that they taste like his favorite ice cream. Callye from Sugarbelle shared the recipe here and I added extra chocolate chips and some peppermint extract to the dough. Thank you Callye for sharing. You're now my son's best friend ;-)

Sugarbakers’ Chocolate Mini-Chip Cookies
1 c unsalted butter
1/3c granulated sugar
1/2 c light-brown sugar
1 large egg yolk
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 ½ c all-purpose flour {I think they got a little overzealous with the flour…try 2 cups first, and work your way up}
½ tsp salt
1 ½ c semi-sweet mini-chocolate chips
Cream together the butter and sugars. To that add the vanilla and egg yolk. Sift together the flour and salt, and add it one cup at a time until completely incorporated. Then, BY HAND fold in the chocolate chips. You can do it with your mixer, but it might break them up, so I would really just do it the old fashioned way =)
*MEANWHILE, PREHEAT YOUR OVEN TO 350°*
While you wait for the oven to warm, wrap your dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least thirty minutes. When it is chilled, roll out cookies on lightly floured parchment and bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes.
