I made some cherries. Lots of cherries. My in-laws bought me this fun Cherry cookie cutter from CopperGifts.com for Christmas and I've been wanting to make them since then. I found a perfect opportunity. I made them for my son's hockey play-off game and I wrote on the cookie bag toppers "You Are The Cherry On The Top! GO BELLS". Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of all the cherry cookies on a platter, but Mellissa was good in snapping a photo of them all bagged. I wish I had taken a photo of my baby girl here helping me with these cookies! Nick also helped me in making a quick video tutorial on working with glaze that you'll see below too.
I made one without sanding sugar just so I could see the two different variations. I like the crisp look without the sanding sugar.
Next time I think I'll add the white line detail on top of the sanding sugar instead of a red line detail.
Here are the cherries all bagged and ready to go to the hockey play-offs. Unfortunately we lost, but the boys played great and enjoyed their cookie after the game.
We have April & May left of hockey and of school. Where has the time gone?
Here's a very quick video on what it looks like to decorate a cookie using GLAZE icing. I worked on this video for quite a while. I had it set to the song PINK by Aerosmith, but I couldn't get my Movie Maker to work right. I read all kinds of documents on Google from others with the same issue and tried updating my Codec files and everything, but I just couldn't get the darn thing to work. I ended up downloading a new movie creator, but it wouldn't let me use my own music. At least the video works! Enjoy seeing what it looks like to work with glaze icing... if you click on the word YouTube (lower right corner of the video), you can see it bigger.
I have a TON more cookies to show you. I can't seem to figure out how to fit in all the cookie baking and decorating and keeping on top of the photos and editing and loading everything to my site. I need an assistant! Payment in cookies ;-)
The cookie cutters that I ordered for Nick's announcement of his college choice have been coming in. I can't wait to make those!!!
At the time of this post, there have been 94,611 visits on my blog. I am so incredibly humbled that so many people enjoy seeing my cookies. I think when we hit 100,000 that I should do a cookie give-away. Do you agree?

My cherries blog background for today:
Wonderful cherry cookies! And your video turned out great. Yeah Nick, Yeah Cristin! :)
ReplyDeleteReally a cookie giveaway....SWEET...i'm in..i'm just starting to attempt making these awesome shaped cookies but i need lots of practice...love seeing what you create and i have to say the cookies are larger than i expected from your picture...i bet the kids enjoyed them...thanks for sharing..
ReplyDeleteenjoy them? We **LOVE** them!! Even Baby Abigail loves them already! I ate one on the way to our last ultrasound and she was bouncing all over the place in there! hehe :)
ReplyDeleteI love your cherry cookie cutter and your decorating. I'm partial to the plain glazed cherry cookie myself. Great little video too. I got a kick out of Mellissa's comment:)
ReplyDeleteIt sure seems to go faster with the glaze than the royal icing, as least the way I decorate. It's almost like you're filling in the cookie with a marker! I was amazed! I actually discovered today that I have a cherry cookie cutter that I didn't even know I had...now I know what to do with it:)
ReplyDeleteI find that it takes me "forever" to do a blog post from beginning to end. I don't know how people with little ones running around do it at all!
Filling with glaze is only that quick when it's a large area to fill and then it works really nicely and quickly. If it's a smaller area, then I think it takes longer than it does with Royal. I could be wrong, but that's my perception. Filling large areas, the glaze fills easily because it runs and fills the area well. With smaller areas, Royal is puffier and holds where it should go. Glaze in small areas has to be very precise since it will run and won't go exactly where you tell it to. Plus there's the whole crater issue which is both to glaze and royal so we have to use a toothpick to move around within the area to not cause air pockets. After a very full week of working on extremely detailed Alice in Wonderland cookies, I'm all for big fill areas ;-)
DeleteThank you sweet Cristin, but the fabulous video! I love glaze icing, but yeah you do have to get the hang of it :D
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful and blessed day! :)
Sooooo cute! LOVE the cherry blog background too! Wish you'd share it, or how to make them. Just adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you! To figure out how to make blog backgrounds, I did a lot of Google research. Several people had done tutorials, many did not work and many were outdated, but I kind of pieced together what I had learned from reading several of those and played around with Photoshop Elements for a lot of time and learned a lot. Then after you get it just right on your monitor, you go and look at it on someone else's monitor and it's very different, but there's nothing you can do about that. I try to make my backgrounds a size that will work with most monitors and then I add in a picture at the bottom of the blog so everyone else can see it if they want to. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
DeleteWould you by chance share your recipe for the glaze? Thank you for your amazing blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I'm sorry but my personal glaze icing recipe is the ONLY thing that I don't share. If you do a Google search on glaze icing recipe, you'll find a couple of options and you can try a couple out and see which you prefer. All of them are yummy! I'd love to see pictures of your cookies when you try them out!
