I asked a bunch of my cookie decorating friends to join me in a COOKIE CUTTER CHALLENGE! Oh my gosh, it was so much fun! I sent each of them a cookie cutter and I asked them to make a cookie of whatever they envision using that cutter. It was so fun to see all the entries come in. What? You want to see them? I bet you do. I made my friends wait a couple weeks before seeing everyone's photos, but you think I should share them with you NOW? Well, ok then! Make sure to see how to win your own cookie cutter at the bottom of this post.
And many of my friends went beyond one cookie. They made several different designs using the cookie cutter. They are all so creative and fun so make sure to stop by their blogs and Facebook pages to see all of their many different designs! There is a story behind each of these cookies. Like #4 Ansa had a bunch of designs she tried to get me to choose from, but I wasn't having any of that responsibility, #8 Kim had help from her son with her cute design. And #10 is named Abigail the Snugglebug. #11 is so cool, but you have to see Lene's other designs because my favorite isn't even shown here. #13 Laura has lots of designs to show you and tell you how she ate a little girl cookie, #15 is a sketch from Karen because a storm kept her from making the actual cookie. Now go see all the extra designs, there are even some giraffes and fish and...

and here's my cookie from the cutter:
and a few more penguins so my penguin wouldn't be lonely
I used lots of colors to make my penguins.
Want a tutorial on how to make my penguin? Start by getting your very own penguin cookie cutter HERE. The first thing I did was to outline the design of my penguin. Sorry for the bad picture. I used my old cell phone to take the photo.
Then I filled the penguin face with white and let that completely dry. After there was no wet icing, I added grey icing to the ice skates and immediately put Silver Disco Dust on the skates for extra sparkle.
Let me warn you right now that Disco Dust is VERY messy. That stuff gets EVERYWHERE. Another option that isn't as messy is to use silver sanding sugar. Notice in the photo above that I added the disco dust early in the decorating process and in the photo below, I added disco dust as the last step in decorating my penguin. It's up to you. Either way, you have to make sure that no icing is wet.
Then I used my paint brush to clean off the excess disco dust.
ooh sparkly
Fill in all the sections of your penguin with colors that you choose or copy any of the penguins that I have shown in the penguin platter.
Then I cleaned up all the mess from my penguin project.
The penguin was the first cookie cutter I ever made. I changed the design to personalize it a bit. I made her legs thicker and the skates larger and the bow stand out more. I absolutely love these penguins and look forward to making them again. My daughter, Mellissa, says we should frame the cookie from our first cookie cutter.
Abigail is invaded by penguin cookies
Thank you to all my friends that played along in our first Cookie Cutter CHALLENGE! You all did such an amazing job and I'm so jealous of the incredible vision and creativity that each of you possess! I plan on doing more of these challenges. For now, I would like to choose one lucky winner to receive their very own penguin cookie cutter, although I guess I can't call it a penguin cookie cutter since everyone came up with so many other designs for it! ;-) All you have to do to enter is say something nice on the Rafflecopter giveaway :-) One winner will be chosen on Friday and I will ship out your new cookie cutter.
